wisdom to heed

The Bible is not silent when it comes to this month’s theme of friendship.  Proverbs, especially, drips wisdom and offers many helpful words of instruction to us.  This sermon is one I listen to and recommend over and over again.  See if you might be able to identify some application to your own life.  Once you sit in on this one, you will probably want to listen to the whole Proverbs series.

You can listen or watch it:

Friendship (Proverbs, 2009) by Mark Driscoll

Questions for consideration:

  1. How is Jesus a real friend to you?
  2. How can you be a better friend? To whom?
  3. Whom (if anyone) would you consider a good friend to you? Why?
  4. In light of our study, what is changing your thinking regarding friendship with whom do you need to no longer be friends, and whom do you need to pursue more intentionally?

during my time away

Last year I was in Vienna, Austria with my husband a few weeks after we got married. After we toured the imperial summer palaces, we spent time with God on top of the hill overlooking the whole city.

The passage I read was Proverbs 9.  The words were jumping off the page as I envisioned the two contrasting scenes between Wisdom’s house and Folly’s house.  May you be wise and accept the invitation of Lady Wisdom who calls you to “walk in the way of insight” (9:6).

By the way, my hair is a bit funky in the video. Enjoy my “travel hair” as I share some of what God was teaching me on this trip!

“Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still;
teach the righteous and they will add to their learning…

If you are wise, your wisdom will reward you;
if you are a mocker, you alone will suffer.”

Proverbs 9:9,12
